    Police Comissioner Norwin William Bauer's uniform is of historical significance because he was Commisioner of the Queensland Police Force during the turbulent years of 1969-1970 when Joh Bjelke-Petersen became Premier and anti-Vietnam demonstrations were prominent. Bauer and Bjelke-Petersen had to work closely because the Premier was also the Minister in charge of Police.     The Gertrude Mary Vile Depression-era dress is a cream Fuji silk dress, with an Eton collar, a patch pocket and buttons down front, from the 1920s though patched into the 30s.     This wedding dress was worn by Bertha Oates for her marriage to Charles Willis, held at  Millthorpe Methodist Church on 31st March, 1909.  The dress reflects contemporary fashion with its pouched bodice, high neckline and trumpet-shaped skirt.     This housecoat leads us into the remarkable story of the Leviny family of Castlemaine. Ernest Leviny (1818-1905) was an Hungarian silversmith and jeweller of some repute who in 1853 travelled to the Victorian goldfields and became one of the wealthiest residents in town. Family history relates that the silk fabric of this dress was in 1793 made up into Elizabeth Marsden's wedding dress on her marriage to Samuel Marsden (1765 - 1838).
