    The significance of this jacket is still being researched. According to family members Shamroze Khan bought this jacket on a pilgrimage to Mecca; date unknown.     This simply cut evening dress consists of short sleeves, a very high waist, sitting under the bust with a A-line skirt. Sleeves have a drawstring at the base, which creates a gathered, look when worn. The hem of the dress has a scalloped edge.     This christening gown has been used by three generations of the Kaltenbach(er) family from 1882 to 1938. The Kaltenbach family migrated to Australia from England in 1886. It is understood the gown was made by Jane Kaltenbach(er) in 1882 for the christening of her first child Christian and was worn by each of her subsequent children including her second child Ferdinand.     The sun helmet is in its original condition and made from materials currently in use in India in the late 19th century. The shola-pith material could be soaked in water to keep the wearer's head cool in hot weather. Later versions used cork as the main construction.     This crimson bodice was probably worn by Bessie Rouse as an elegant presentation robe, possibly before she was married to Edwin Stephen Rouse in 1874. Bessie remained the influential mistress of Rouse Hill House from her marriage until 1924. Her outfit does not show extensive signs of wear although Bessie appears to have moved the red glass buttons across 30mm to allow for an expanding waistline.
